Day 11: 14th June. Karlstein Castle. Cesky Krumlov.

Karlstein Castle resembles a fairy-tale castle from out of a Shakespearean story or Disneyland inspiration, but truly, it is a jewel perched above the Berounka River. Built by Emperor Charles IV in the mid-14th century, it takes a hard 30 minute walk up the steep hill to get to the top.

Now at Ceske Budejovice; destination Cesky Krumlov, just a few hundred more kilometres!

Cesky Krumlov!

Dinner at Cesky Krumlov was an adventure in itself. There are so many little taverns and restaurants along its cobbled streets serving excellent food and that world-famous Czech Pilsner, that we couldn't really make up our minds. We finally settled for the place that seemed most packed. This was one of our salads. Yum!

The sunset was just as spectacular as the little town, and its food.

Cesky Krumlov must be one of the biggest secrets outside of Europe.
It ranks as one of the most picturesque little towns around and yet has fewer visitors than one would expect. It's original Gothic fortress was rebuilt as a huge Renaissance chateau by Italian Architects in the 16th century and is such a beautiful crown to cap this UNESCO World Heritage -listed town.
